For Dutch people into sailing, sailing on ice is the mythical ultimate... though I'm not sure I'd dare. If the wind is right, it's far more risky than ordinary sailing is.

Anyhow the ice is good enough for sailing in many places right now, and I've found a youtube video illustrating the phenomenon. Go check it out :)

As you probably realize by now, my lens about The Netherlands made lens of the day :) I can't stop smiling about it.

It's a real winter: Dutch people skating on natural ice :) - Wed, 31 Dec 2008
I went skating with my mom this morning. It's been years since it's been possible to do so on natural ice. There is a lot of open water in the Netherlands, and since it is usually not too deep - a week of consistent freezing temperatures (in day AND nighttime) will give them an ice layer that people can walk on & skate on as well.

So I thought I'd share a youtube video about this on my lens about the Netherlands. It's a rare sight - cause the climate is heating up.

Well, I've finally made my lens about the Netherlands Dutch. Don't worry, you can still read it, but Dutch people rarely talk positive about The Netherlands. In fact, some say we've made complaining a national sport. We are perhaps the poster child of a very happy (and wealthy) people who show that complaining does not make you unhappy...

Oh - I've strayed. What I added to my lens is the following Dirt about the Dutch:
- we curse
- we are impolite
- we have a racist celebration...
and ...

Sometimes not getting an angel-blessing (just a five star rating and a fav.) can be a great wake-up call. :) I agreed: this was a 5-star lens, not yet worth an angel blessing.
So I set out to improve it a bit. I already had a lot about the relationship between my country and water. How a lot of the country is below sea level, but not quite 50% and more.
Just now I expanded the info on our relationship to our royalty and added some tit bits of info on working women here... Come check it out!
