New poem on The Life & Works of Rudyard Kipling Lens - Mon, 21 Jul 2008
I've just added The Ballad of East and West by Rudyard Kipling to this lens. The first line of the poem 'East is east and west is west and never the twain shall meet...' is often used to castigate Kipling for racism. In fact, if the critic read the following three lines, let alone the whole poem, it could be seen that the author's message is just the opposite. The poem is a straightforward adventure story with a moral in the end that men of any kind can be brothers.
